Our story
Dar es Salaam Police Academy (DPA), formerly Police College Dar es Salaam, was established in 1961. It is situated at Kurasini along Kilwa Road in Dar es Salaam, about five kilometres from the city centre, and covers an area of about 10 acres.
A leading training institution
The Academy is a highly ranked training institution within the Tanzania Police Force. It offers academic, promotional and proficiency programmes to police officers and to other safety and security agencies from within and outside the country, and has the capacity to enrol up to 500 police officers and civilians a year from Tanzania Mainland and Zanzibar.
The programmes are designed to develop and train officers in specific areas, preparing personnel who can assume leadership roles within the Force and sharpen their capabilities to discharge their responsibilities for the preservation of peace and the maintenance of law and order in society.
A regional Centre of Excellence
Following police cooperation under the umbrella of SARPCCO and EAPCCO in combating crime within the region, Dar es Salaam Police Academy has been designated an East African Centre of Excellence for Public Order Management and Promotional Programmes.

Registered by NACTE
Registered by the National Council for Technical Education (NACTE) in October 2009, registration number REG/PFW/032.
- 2012
Advisory Board established
The Academy's Advisory Board was established in June 2012 and inaugurated by the Inspector General of Police on 3 July 2012.

Dar es Salaam Police Academy is registered by NACTE (registration number REG/PFW/032, October 2009). Programmes offered:
- Ordinary Diploma in Police Science (NTA Level 6)
- Basic Certificate in Medical Laboratory Technology (NTA Level 4)
- Technician Certificate in Medical Laboratory Technology (NTA Level 5)
